Welcome to this CEU on Integrated Pest Management Principles. This Applicator Recertification CEU course will discuss essentials for all people who manage pests both indoors and outdoors, in a rural or an urban area, to be fully aware of the decisions behind every treatment. These applicators should ask themselves these important questions:

1. Is the organism I have found actually a pest, and has its population reached a level where treatment is justified?
2. What combination of prevention, cultural, mechanical, biological, and chemical methods will control it with the least risk and the most lasting result?

Learning Objectives:

The following is a list of the key points to be discussed within this course.

• Understand integrated pest management as a decision-making process, including all relevant components, such as prevention, monitoring, pest identification, action thresholds, control tactics, and evaluation.
• Understand how to monitor and scout effectively, including sampling patterns, trapping methods, and the difference between signs and symptoms.
• Identify the four main pest groups and understand why correct identification governs the selection of products, monitoring methods, and control tactics.
• Understand the importance of the economic injury level and the economic threshold, and how thresholds differ for aesthetic and public health pests.
• When and how to apply cultural, mechanical, biological, regulatory, and chemical controls, including rotating modes of action to prevent pesticide resistance.
