- Understand bed bug biology and the gradual metamorphosis life cycle of egg, nymph, and adult.
- Identify bed bugs and distinguish them from cockroaches, fleas, lice, spiders, and bat bugs.
- Learn bed bug feeding behavior, harborage preferences, and how an infestation is structured within a dwelling.
- Recognize the signs of an infestation, and why bites alone are unreliable evidence.
- Discover how infestations spread through passive transport, used furniture, and multi-unit housing.
- Learn how to conduct a thorough, systematic inspection using visual methods and monitoring devices.
- Non-chemical controls including vacuuming, steam, encasements, laundering, and heat and cold treatment.
- Chemical control options, and why space treatments and foggers must never be used against bed bugs.
- Insecticide resistance in bed bugs and how to manage it through mode-of-action rotation.
- Follow-up treatment timing, and the client education that prevents reintroduction.

New York License Requirements
Commercial Applicator Requirements — 3 Year Cycle
Category 7A – Structural & Rodent Control – 12 credits
At least 3 credits must be 7A-specific. The remaining 9 may be Core, 7A, or any combination.
Category 7C – Termite – 8 credits
At least 2 credits must be 7C-specific. The remaining 6 may be Core, 7C, or any combination.
Category 3A – Ornamentals, Shade Trees & Turf – 10 credits
At least 2.5 credits must be 3A-specific. The remaining 7.5 may be Core, 3A, or any combination.
Category 5B – Aquatic Insect & Misc. Aquatic Organisms Control – 8 credits
At least 2 credits must be 5B-specific. The remaining 6 may be Core, 5B, or any combination.
Commercial applicators on a three-year cycle may earn all of their recertification credits within a single calendar year.
Private Applicator Requirements — 5 Year Cycle
Categories 21–25 – 10 credits each
21 Field & Forage · 22 Fruit · 23 Vegetable · 24 Greenhouse & Florist · 25 Nursery, Ornamentals & Turf
At least 2.5 credits must be specific to the category. The remaining 7.5 may be Core, category-specific, or any combination.
Please note: private applicators cannot earn all of their recertification credits in one calendar year — credits must be spread across more than one year.
