Welcome to this CEU on Integrated Pest Management Principles. This Applicator Recertification CEU course will discuss essentials for all people who manage pests both indoors and outdoors, in a rural or an urban area, to be fully aware of the decisions behind every treatment. These applicators should ask themselves these important questions:
- Is the organism I have found actually a pest, and has its population reached a level where treatment is justified?
- What combination of prevention, cultural, mechanical, biological, and chemical methods will control it with the least risk and the most lasting result?

Learning Objectives:
The following is a list of the key points to be discussed within this course.
- Understand integrated pest management as a decision-making process, including all relevant components, such as prevention, monitoring, pest identification, action thresholds, control tactics, and evaluation.
- Understand how to monitor and scout effectively, including sampling patterns, trapping methods, and the difference between signs and symptoms.
- Identify the four main pest groups and understand why correct identification governs the selection of products, monitoring methods, and control tactics.
- Understand the importance of the economic injury level and the economic threshold, and how thresholds differ for aesthetic and public health pests.
- When and how to apply cultural, mechanical, biological, regulatory, and chemical controls, including rotating modes of action to prevent pesticide resistance.

New York License Requirements
Commercial Applicator Requirements — 3 Year Cycle
Category 7A – Structural & Rodent Control – 12 credits
At least 3 credits must be 7A-specific. The remaining 9 may be Core, 7A, or any combination.
Category 7C – Termite – 8 credits
At least 2 credits must be 7C-specific. The remaining 6 may be Core, 7C, or any combination.
Category 3A – Ornamentals, Shade Trees & Turf – 10 credits
At least 2.5 credits must be 3A-specific. The remaining 7.5 may be Core, 3A, or any combination.
Category 5B – Aquatic Insect & Misc. Aquatic Organisms Control – 8 credits
At least 2 credits must be 5B-specific. The remaining 6 may be Core, 5B, or any combination.
Commercial applicators on a three-year cycle may earn all of their recertification credits within a single calendar year.
Private Applicator Requirements — 5 Year Cycle
Categories 21–25 – 10 credits each
21 Field & Forage · 22 Fruit · 23 Vegetable · 24 Greenhouse & Florist · 25 Nursery, Ornamentals & Turf
At least 2.5 credits must be specific to the category. The remaining 7.5 may be Core, category-specific, or any combination.
Please note: private applicators cannot earn all of their recertification credits in one calendar year — credits must be spread across more than one year.
